Webmaster's Note: These photos were recently brought to me by
one of the guys in the photos and a founding member of Troop 521.
They brought back a ton of memories and I realized that even after all
these years I could still name everyone in the photos! I thought
they'd make a nice addition to the Troop website and would extend the site
backward in time to around 1991. Enjoy!
Here are
some of the guys as Wolf Cubs visiting the Homeplace and Land Between the
Lakes. This was one of the traditional summer activities Pack 521
conducted until the late 1990s.
The Pack had
an annual graduation and crossover ceremony complete with an Arrow of
Light bridge that was rediscovered in 2004 and put back into use.
Each Cub was recognized and advanced to the next level receiving his new
neckerchief and slide from the Cubmaster. WEBELOS crossing over to a
Boy Scout Troop were received by their new Scoutmaster and fellow Scouts.
There were some crossovers attended by as many as 6 different local
Troops!
The Pack Christmas Party
was also an annual event. We typically had a piņata and gift
exchange. Imagine having nearly 40 Cub Scouts standing under the
piņata when it breaks!
This photo
was taken at the home of the late Dr. Ed Jordan, one of the founders of
Pack 521. Almost until his death, Dr. Jordan invited the Pack to his
home for the Pack's annual October Raingutter Regatta. The boys and
their families would eat hot dogs and race their boats. The Pack
stopped this traditional event in 1997, resuming it in the spring of 2006.
Another tradition was
the February Blue and Gold Banquet held at the Madison Street Methodist
Church. Here are the WEBELOS, many of whom would join Troop 521,
preparing to do their "12 Points of the Scout Law" presentation.
As the
WEBELOS moved closer to joining Boy Scout Troops, they began to learn how
to camp and take care of themselves in the outdoors. This photo was
taken during a Webelos in the Woods campout at Rotary Park.
Although they aren't all in the photo, the guys from
this WEBELOS den went off to three different
Troops, three participated in the 2001 National Jamboree and four became Eagle Scouts.
