On May 22, 2004, the Dragon Patrol went for a 5-mile hike on the Fort Henry trail at Land Between the Lakes.  Everyone learned to recognize poison ivy and identified at least 10 different animals that they saw or heard.  The Dragons learned about the buddy system on the trail and about trail blazes and how they work.  Maybe the most important thing they learned to do was to orient a map using a compass and to read the map.  At each turn in the trail, the Dragons had to decide which way to go.  Fortunately for everyone on the hike, they got it right every time.
We also got to drink water that was hand pumped and purified out of a creek and later on to take off our shoes to wade cross another creek right before we finished the trail.  The cold water felt good on some very tired feet!

On the way home, we stopped at the B&M Dairy Freeze (a troop tradition) and got some onion rings and ice cream.
