June of 2006 found as back at Ft. Campbell for another Eagle project.  On June 30 and July 1, teams of volunteers working under Keith's direction worked to clean out the interior of a WWII era C-47.  This aircraft actually participated in the D-day invasion, transporting troops of the 101st Airborne Division, and will be featured in the new Wings of Liberty Museum.
It was a beautiful weekend for outdoor work but temperatures in the low 90s made it very hot inside the aircraft.

Electric fans set up inside the aircraft as well as lots of water to drink helped everyone to keep as cool as possible.

The primary task was to hand sand the peeling paint off of the interior.  All of the materials and most of the food was donated by local businesses. The cockpit was off-limits except for a camera The C-47 ("Gooney Bird") was a wartime version of the DC-3 passenger aircraft.  It was used to transport troops and materiel and to tow gliders.
The wings provided excellent shade and served double duty as hot surfaces for keeping pizza warm to feed the volunteers.
While we were there, the Troop Committee took the opportunity to conduct two Boards of Review; one for Tenderfoot and one for 1st Class.
