The Troop arrived at Grimes Canoe Base on Friday night all charged up and ready to go in Saturday's canoe race.  Last year, there had only been about 30 participants but this year the number nearly doubled with 28 canoes going out on the river.  Saturday morning we were up early and had our traditional Mountain Man breakfast of eggs, hash browns, onions, sausage, and cheese.  Two of our Scouts had to drive in on Saturday morning to be there for the race.
The race took us from 7 miles upriver back down to the Canoe Base.  All 3 of the Troop 521 canoe teams reached the finish line within the first 8 canoes.  Congratulations to our Junior team for taking 1st Place in their division.  Our seniors came in only 2 minutes behind the 2nd Place canoe in their division.  The adults won 2nd Place by 40 seconds. (At first the adults were told they'd lost by 50 seconds but a recalculation put them in 2nd Place.)
After everyone was in off the river, we sat down to lunch.  Sixty hungry canoeists and kayakers made the burgers and chips disappear very quickly.  We'll be back next year to try to shave our times down far enough to take home even more trophies.
