On the weekend of August 21, Troop 521 went to Grimes Canoe Base for a 25-miler.  We arrived on Friday night and settled in, getting to bed early because we had to eat and be on the river first thing the next morning.  On Day 1, we covered 16.9 miles.  On Day 2, we covered an additional 13 miles.  The second day used to be only 11 miles but we had to go an additional 2 miles because the old take-out at Duncan's Camp was no longer accessible.  By the end of the second day, we were very tired but we did it.  Everyone earned either their Grimes Canoe Base 25 Mile patch or a bar.  The Scoutmaster earned his 125 Miler bar and vowed to come back for another next year.
One of the most important things you can do when you are trying to canoe or kayak 30 miles in 2 days is rest when you get the chance.  As you can tell, we're all good at it.
