Troop 521 gathered on December 23, 2003, to recognize Phil Freed-Golden who had earned the highest rank in Boy Scouting, Eagle Scout.

Before the ceremony began, there was time to greet friends and to talk.
An Eagle Court of Honor is both a serious recognition of a tremendous achievement and a celebration of a lot of years of hard work and good times.
It was time for the ceremony to begin.  The Color Guard presented the colors and the Scoutmaster offered a benediction.  Four of the Troop's adult leaders (two of whom were once Troop 521 Scouts) participated in the ceremony recognizing Phil's achievements.
There was also an opportunity for two of the adults who had spent a lot of time with Phil to tell stories about him.  There was no shortage of things to say!

Everyone agreed that trying to get Phil out of his tent in the morning is the highlight of any camping trip.
It was finally time to pin the Eagle medal on Phil's uniform shirt.  Fortunately, it was done without any bloodshed.  Phil gave an Eagle pin to his mother and another to his dad to recognize everything that they had done to help him with his Scouting career.
Ben Karns, the Troop's first Eagle Scout administered the Eagle Oath to Phil, the Troop's second Eagle.  You can see Ben's Eagle Court on this site, too.

I affirm my allegiance to the three promises of the Scout Oath.

I thoughtfully recognize and take upon myself the obligations and responsibilities of an Eagle Scout.  On my honor, I will do my best to make my training an example and my status and my influence count strongly for better Scouting and for better citizenship in my troop, in my community, and in my contacts with other people.

To this I pledge my sacred honor.

There were also some special presentations for Phil.  His mom had spent several months putting together a collection of Eagle badges spanning over 40 years of Scouting.  She presented them in special glass shadow box.

The Scouts in the Troop presented him with a basket full of snacks and goodies.  Since he started college this year, it was something for him to take back to the dorm after Christmas break ended.

The Troop's newest Eagle Scout addressed the audience, inviting them to enjoy the refreshments that had been laid out.
Phil's family is very proud of him and his accomplishments.  He has already taken on the role of Assistant Scoutmaster for his Troop.
