Troop 521 went
back to Camp Stahlman at Boxwell Reservation for its 11th year.
As soon as we hung
up our 521 sign we were "in residence."
We always have our
shelter set up with all of our schedules and a duty roster on the
bulletin board. For safety, a fire extinguisher and first aid
kit are easily available.
From time to time,
the Scouts just have to try something new, like duct-taping someone
to a tree.
One of the high
points of the day is meal time at the Stahlman Dining Hall. In
addition to competing for the Gizmo at lunch, there are always songs
to be sung until we hear "monitors stand by" and it's time to go
back to work.
This year, two of
our Scouts complete the basic COPE course.
Congratulations!
In addition, we
had two Scouts earn advancements during the week. A Troop
Board of Review met for one of our Scouts who completed the rank of
Star.
An Eagle Board of Review met and
Keith MacDonald became our 5th Eagle Scout. Benjamin Bills was
on hand to congratulate Keith and award him one of his own badges to
wear. Following troop tradition, the badge was affixed using
duct tape.
At dinner on the
last day of camp, the staff marched in as usual and retired the
colors.
This year's camp was very good
and we really appreciated the time given by all of the members of
the staff to making it work for us.
Finally it was
time to go home. We started very early and got packed up and
loaded our gear. The campsite was completely cleaned up and
then it was time for breakfast. Afterward we met our rides for
the trip home.
We'll be back!
