| The
summer of 2000 saw Troop 521 at Boxwell
Reservation for a week of residential camp.
We were very lucky to have a campsite with a
wooden shelter on it. |
 |
The
temperature during the week reached 98 degrees and
a thermometer inside the Scoutmaster's tent read
114!! |
 |
We
drank a lot of water and stayed in the shade as
much as we could. Reading, basket weaving,
and beadwork were popular. On the
right, a Scout gets some dirt for a terrarium by
just kicking some up. Can you tell how dry
it was? |

At
the Scoutmasters' supper that week, one of our
adults received his Wood Badge beads and was
elected permanent Patrol Leader for his Owl
Patrol. Looks kind of happy, doesn't he? |
 |
| One of the most
exciting things for older Scouts to do at Boxwell
is the week-long COPE course. COPE stands
for Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience, and
it is. Scouts in the program are asked to
master their limits, to help each other and keep
each other safe. The three Scouts from our
Troop in the COPE program this year came back to
camp tired but very proud of themselves each day. |

| Another
favorite is Space Exploration merit badge.
During the week, the guys worked on building model
rockets. At the end of the week, they waited
to fly them. After a safety briefing, each
rocket was placed on the launch pad ready to
go. Unfortunately, for some reason most of
the engines didn't fire. Oh well, they would
have flown really high. |

| At
the end of the week, we were all ready to go home
and get into some air conditioning but we'll be
back, same time, same place next year. |
