On February 24, 2003, the Scouts of Troop 521 under the direction of
one of the troop's Assistant
Scoutmasters who also happens to be a well-known attorney, argued a case involving accusations of negligence against White Star
Lines based on the actions of the crew during the sinking of R.M.S. Titanic. Pictured at the left are the
Scouts who participated in the mock trial that fulfilled a key requirement for the Law merit badge.
Here, counsel for the plaintiff questions a member of the crew who was present
during the sinking while the bailiff and the judge listen.
Counsel for the White Star Lines examines the witness.
Although it can't be seen in these photos, a jury of parents was listening carefully to the testimony.
After nearly 20 minutes of deliberation, the jury found in favor of White Star Lines.
Everyone learned a great deal about the law and what it takes to conduct a trial.
